Aluminum Hydroxide (ATH), also known as Alumina Trihydrate, is one of the most widely used inorganic flame retardant fillers in the plastics and rubber industries.

Flame Retardant Mechanism
ATH functions as a physical flame retardant. When exposed to high temperatures (around 200–220°C), Aluminum Hydroxide decomposes endothermically
and releases chemically bound water vapor.
This process absorbs a large amount of heat from the combustion surface and lowers the temperature of the material. At the same time, the released water vapor
dilutes oxygen and combustible gases, helping to suppress flame propagation.
After decomposition, a layer of aluminum oxide (Al₂O₃) is formed on the surface of the material, which acts as a protective barrier. This residue further isolates heat
and oxygen, effectively preventing the spread of fire and reducing smoke generation.
