Magnesium Hydroxide for PA (Polyamide) Flame Retardant Applications
Release time:2025-12-17 Visits:2
Magnesium hydroxide (MDH) is an environmentally friendly, halogen-free flame retardant widely used in polyamide (PA) compounds, such as PA6 and PA66, for electrical, electronic, and automotive applications. As global regulations increasingly restrict halogen-containing flame retardants, MDH has become a preferred solution for manufacturers seeking both fire safety and environmental compliance.
Excellent Flame Retardant Performance in PA
When exposed to high temperatures, magnesium hydroxide decomposes endothermically at around 330–340°C, absorbing heat and releasing water vapor. This mechanism effectively lowers the surface temperature of PA materials, dilutes combustible gases, and suppresses smoke generation. The residual magnesium oxide (MgO) forms a protective layer that further enhances thermal stability and char formation.
Designed for High-Temperature PA Processing
PA resins typically require high processing temperatures. Our magnesium hydroxide grades for PA applications are characterized by:
High purity, ensuring stable flame retardant performance
Fine and controlled particle size, enabling good dispersion in PA matrices
Low impurity content, minimizing the impact on mechanical properties
Optional surface-treated grades to improve compatibility and processing flow
These features make our MDH suitable for injection molding and extrusion of PA compounds.
